ShearLock Engineering is a structural design firm proudly located in Beaufort County, South Carolina. ShearLock was founded by Jake Eavenson, PE, SE and Joshua Barnes, PE in Innovative Excellence. Our team of Engineers and Drafters have developed a like-minded approach to prioritizing communication and working towards practical solutions throughout the design process.
ShearLock represents over 30 years of experience in the structural engineering, design, and construction fields with thousands of structures designed by the team throughout their careers. This firm specializes in designing for the effects of high wind, seismic, and flood loadings, as well as unique foundation design considerations found along the Southeastern Atlantic Region.

Jake Eavenson, PE, SE
Principal Engineer & Founder
Jake has worked in the Structural Engineering field for his entire career and has passionately expanded his skill base through meticulous research and pursuing technically challenging projects.
After starting his career in the Atlanta, GA market as a Specialty Engineer for all forms of earth retaining structures, he relocated to the South Carolina Lowcountry and has since acquired extensive experience with nearly every structural material and building type. He has developed an expertise with local historic structures as well as providing creative, practical, and economical designs to account for the unique variables associated with coastal region design.
Joshua Barnes, PE
Principal Engineer & Founder
Josh brings an extensive background in construction project management. Six years ago, he transitioned from the field of railroad bridge rehabilitation and maintenance to continue his structural engineering career with design, planning and coordination of various residential and commercial projects as well as private vehicular and pedestrian bridges.
He is fluent in the design of all building materials and utilizes a range of engineering software to complete structural design. He prides himself on excellent communication and coordination skills and prefers to take a hands-on approach to problem solving while thinking ahead to minimize on-site complications.
Angela Nappi Dowding, PE
Project Manager
Angela Nappi Dowding, Project Manager, began her career in the Lowcountry after relocating from New Jersey in 2020. Angela is a graduate of the Ohio State University with a Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering. Angela has worked on many notable Lowcountry projects, including Port Royal Sound Foundation Pavilion and Lowcountry Fresh Market and Café. In her free time, Angela enjoys spending time with her children and husband as well as gardening.
Nathan Bradley, EIT
Project Engineer
Nathan Bradley, Project Engineer, began his career in the Lowcountry after relocating from North Georgia in 2021. Nathan is a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a BS in Civil Engineering. In his time in the coastal Carolina region, Nathan has specialized in light frame wood and steel construction and the effect high winds/hurricanes can have on our structures. In his free time, Nathan enjoys exploring local shops and going to see new movies with his wife.
